I seek refuge...

Going for Refuge

Everyone is trying to find some refuge from the 'slings and arrows' of the suffering that we all feel from life. We're all seeking refuge. Here, a simple refuge prayer you can say any time you want, for centering and grounding:

Simple Refuge Prayer

Namo Jesu-samma - I go for refuge to Jesus, YESu-sahmah
Namo Dharmaya - I go for refuge to Jesus' teachings
Namo Mairi-samma - I go for refuge to Mary, MAY-ree-sahmah
Namo Sanghaya - I go for refuge to my association

We are all running after some things and running away from other things, in an attempt to minimize suffering and be as happy as we can. Sometimes it helps us when we notice that everyone else, too, is also trying to avoid their own suffering, and seeking ways to be happy. When we talk about going for refuge in Jesus and Jesus' dharma teachings, we find a way to build within ourselves safe harbor for the rough storm that life can throw at our little boats. Jesus offers us love [in God's house are many rooms and Jesus prepares us one], welcomes us home, lights our way, and helps us with a way of wisdom and awareness, offering us koans or riddles to bemuse our thinking minds, so we can be still and awaken to something deeper. And when we join with a few like-minded others in a sangha, we will have a friendly hands to help pick us back up when we trip and falter along the journey.
